Why certification?  In 1997, the American Bar Association defined a legal assistant as “a person qualified by education, training or work experience who is employed or retained by a lawyer, law office, corporation, governmental agency, or other entity who performs specifically delegated substantive legal work for which a lawyer is responsible.” Over the years, several certification programs have been established to help meet the need for the education and training of legal staff.

Waco LPA offers three certifications through the national association:

ALS® …the basic certification for legal professionals – administered by NALS...the Association for Legal Professionals www.nals.org/certification/ALS

PLS® …the advanced certification for legal professionals – administered by NALS...the Association for Legal Professionals www.nals.org/certification/PLS

PP® …Professional Paralegal – administered by NALS...the Association for Legal Professionals www.nals.org/certification/professionalparalegal

To learn more about the ALS, PLS, and PP certifications, please visit the NALS website at www.nals.org
